Métis Public Health Surveillance Program (MPHSP)

Date

The long-awaited baseline health report entitled Taanishi Kiiya was released on February 3rd, 2022 in a virtual launch. This allowed Métis Nation BC (MNBC), in conjunction with the Office of the Provincial Health Officerto set recommendations, goals and benchmarks to improve and monitor Métis health for the first time in BC. This is the first report of a 10-year commitment to surveillance with the Office of the Provincial Health Officer. MNBC Citizens have shown they are committed to improving the health of the Métis population by participating in this program.

Taanishi Kiiya is only the beginning of this program, with additional data around the impact of the drug poisoning crisis and the Métis cancer journey being developed and analyzed. These additional sources of data will enable MNBC’s Ministry of Health to better advocate for the needs of our citizens and to further the health and wellness programming we already deliver.
